A little bit about us and the store
Silver Threads started as a corner in a craft mall in downtown Franklin, NC back in May, 2007. The original owner, Linda Hornis, chose the name Silver Threads & Golden Needles not only for the fiber arts connection but because she was a huge Linda Ronstandt fan!

About six months later, the shop moved to its current location at 41E Main Street. Although at that point, it was about 25% of its current size.
In July of 2008, the mother & daughter team of Virginia Murphy & Kristin McDougall bought the store & ran it together for several years. Over the years, Amy Murphy and Karen Edfeldt transitioned from customers, to employees and then ultimately co-owners.

In August of 2024, Barb Carroll, who also started as a customer that graduated to staff, bought the shop from the 4 owners.
Barb a life-long fiber artist relocated to the mountains to start practicing her retirement. She enjoys knitting, spinning, rug hooking, crocheting & just about anything else fiber related. When not knitting (if here is such a time) you can find Barb riding her motorcycle through mountains or hiking our local trails.
She looks forward to not only adding to the fine legacy of Silver Threads but to continue expanding into the fiber arts community.
A little bit of store folklore, in 2015, the Dobratz family were on a family vacation to the area. Emma (of Emma's Yarn) bought some dyes from us as part of a home schooling project on proportions. Her mom, Laura, owner of Four Purls in Winter Haven, Florida, bought yarn and headed down the street to the Lazy Hiker Brewing Company, where she designed the pattern for the Lazy Hiker scarf.
